The Word lists are very important in your GRE Preparation. They help you score good in your Verbal Section of GRE.

Besides other things, GRE measures your vocabulary. The tests are designed such that they measure your knowledge of words in direct and indirect ways. The verbal section is devoted to test how well you understand the meaning of the words of English and the analytical writing section tests the way you use words in an indirect way. You exhibit your knowledge of words here by writing independently without any restriction. So it is more important to concentrate on the verbal section for vocabulary. You need to prepare separately for this section.

A Word list helps you to improve your Vocabulary. You should study atleast 2 Word lists of GRE a day with 50 – 100 words.

Each language is a collection of words threaded in sentences using the rules of grammar. It is these sentences which give us the capability to interact with each other; they form the base for communication. If two persons do not know the same language it becomes very difficult for them to communicate. And if these two people happen to be a teacher and a student then the process of teaching and learning is impossible. The medium of instruction has to be understood by the student. So when you go to a college to study it is expected of you to know the language of instruction well. Now, to know a language well does not just mean that you are able to speak the language but also that you can read and write it well, that you can understand what the other person is saying and that you can express. Hence you need to have a good command over the grammar and understand a wide variety of words. Your vocabulary should be of the level of the teachers of the college teaching you. Moreover you should be able to understand a number of different subjects. Then only is the process of teaching and learning successful. Thus it becomes obvious that your vocabulary is tested in GRE.

The verbal section of GRE is designed to check how well you can understand information, interpret and analyze it. Your ability to understand and analyze complete sentences, their components and component words is put to test here. This section contains four types of questions. You will be tested for antonyms, analogies, sentence completion and reading comprehension.

In the questions related with antonyms you will have to choose the word with the opposite meaning of the word given. You shall be given five options from which you have to choose the appropriate answer. Here your knowledge about the exact meanings of words is tested. If you have a vague idea of the meaning of a word and you do not know the exact meaning then it is difficult to score in these types of questions. The answer options will have very similar answers and it gets confusing if you do not know the meaning.
